We obtain the strong asymptotics of polynomials pn(λ), λ ∈ C, orthogonal with respect to measures in the complex plane of the form e 2s−tλs−tλs)dA(λ), where s is a positive integer, t is a complex parameter and dA stands for the area measure in the plane. Such problem has its origin from normal matrix models. We study the asymptotic behaviour of pn(λ) in the limit n,N → ∞ in such a way that n/N → T constant. Such asymptotic behaviour has two distinguished regimes according to the topology of the limiting support of the eigenvalue distribution of the normal matrix model. If 0 < |t| < T/s, the eigenvalue distribution support is a simply connected compact set of the complex plane, while for |t| > T/s the eigenvalue distribution support consists of s connected components. Correspondingly the support of the limiting zero distribution of the orthogonal polynomials consists of a closed contour contained in each connected component. Our asymptotic analysis is obtained by reducing the planar orthogonality conditions of the polynomials to an equivalent system of contour integral orthogonality conditions. The strong asymptotics for the orthogonal polynomials is obtained from the corresponding Riemann–Hilbert problem by the Deift–Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method.

Recurrences and explicit formulae for the expansion and connection coefficients in series of the product of two classical discrete orthogonal polynomials
Suppose that for an arbitrary function $f(x,y)$ of two discrete variables, we have the formal expansions. متن کاملUniform Asymptotics for Polynomials Orthogonal With Respect to a General Class of Discrete Weights and Universality Results for Associated Ensembles: Announcement of Results
We compute the pointwise asymptotics of orthogonal polynomials with respect to a general class of pure point measures supported on finite sets as both the number of nodes of the measure and also the degree of the orthogonal polynomials become large. The class of orthogonal polynomials we consider includes as special cases the Krawtchouk and Hahn classical discrete orthogonal polynomials, but is...
متن کاملLocalization of Eigenvalues in Small Specified Regions of Complex Plane by State Feedback Matrix
This paper is concerned with the problem of designing discrete-time control systems with closed-loop eigenvalues in a prescribed region of stability. First, we obtain a state feedback matrix which assigns all the eigenvalues to zero, and then by elementary similarity operations we find a state feedback which assigns the eigenvalues inside a circle with center and radius. This new algorithm ca...
متن کاملRemarks on Orthogonal Polynomials with Respect to Varying Measures and Related Problems
We point out the relation between the orthogonal polynomials with respect to (w.r.t.) varying measures and the so-called orthogonal rationals on the unit circle in the complex plane. This observation enables us to combine different techniques in the study of these polynomials and rationals. As an example, we present a simple and short proof for a known result on the weak-star convergence of ort...
متن کاملRelative Asymptotics for Polynomials Orthogonal with Respect to a Discrete Sobolev Inner Product
We investigate the asymptotic properties of orthogonal polynomials for a class of inner products including the discrete Sobolev inner products 〈h, g〉 = ∫ hg dμ+ ∑m j=1 Nj i=0 Mj,ih (cj)g (cj), where μ is a certain type of complex measure on the real line, and cj are complex numbers in the complement of supp(μ). The Sobolev orthogonal polynomials are compared with the orthogonal polynomials corr...
